SYNOPSIS
Selected by the Actors Branch.
35mm print! Ingrid Bergman won the first of her three Oscars for her delicately emotional performance in this classic Gothic psychological thriller directed by George Cukor. Paula Alquist, the troubled daughter of a murdered opera singer in Victorian London, slowly comes to realize that her new husband (Best Actor nominee Charles Boyer) may not have her best interests in mind. The film’s seven Oscar nominations included Best Picture and Supporting Actress for Angela Lansbury (making her film debut at 17), and it won for its black-and-white art direction.
