SYNOPSIS
Selected by the Writers Branch.
35mm print! 50th Anniversary! Frank Pierson won an Oscar for his witty, tense, and emotional screenplay based on a real-life Brooklyn bank heist in 1972, with Actors Studio member and current Co-President Al Pacino giving one of his most indelible performances as the stressed-out robber. Pacino received his fourth consecutive Oscar nomination (his third consecutive for Best Actor) for this role, tying Marlon Brando for the most consecutive acting nominations for a male actor. Sidney Lumet received his second nomination for directing this Best Picture nominee, a classic of New York “fun city” cinema, with Chris Sarandon nominated for his role as Pacino’s transgender life partner. Additional Actors Studio members in the film include Carol Kane, Penny Allen, and Sully Boyer.
