It Came from the Archive!

Co-presented with the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

DETAILS

Following this year’s collaboration on Academy Museum Branch Selects and Around the World with Luis Buñuel in New York, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and the Paris Theater announce It Came From the Archive!, a new summer series highlighting titles preserved and restored by the Academy Film Archive from 2016 to 2026.

Screenings will take place from Friday, July 31, through Thursday, August 6, 2026.

Established in 1991, the Academy Film Archive is home to one of the world’s most diverse and extensive motion picture collections, boasting over 250,000 items. Dedicated to the preservation, restoration, documentation, exhibition, and study of motion pictures, the archive is ever-growing and evolving to accommodate new materials in need of safekeeping. Its team works to save films from deterioration and breathe new life into works once lost, damaged, or unprojectable.

It Came From the Archive! will highlight 10 recent feature film restoration projects from the Academy Film Archive, spanning nearly a century of film history and including narrative, documentary and animated works. The program will feature Academy Award®-winning films, rediscovered classics, and some very special Q&As with filmmakers, as well as the New York premiere of the 4K restoration of Otto Preminger’s Saint Joan, the film adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s play that introduced Jean Seberg to the world.

Academy Award®-nominated animator Bill Plympton will join us for a Q&A on Tuesday, August 4, following his 1992 animated feature The Tune, and director Leslie Harris will appear following a screening of Just Another Girl on the I.R.T., her debut feature film that earned her a Special Jury Prize at the 1993 Sundance Film Festival.

Academy Museum film programming is generously funded by the Richard Roth Foundation.
