Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen: A Walk Down the Aisle with Haley Z. Boston

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen | New Series on Netflix March 26

DETAILS

On Thursday, March 26, Netflix will launch the new horror series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, created by Haley Z. Boston and executive produced by Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers, along with Hilary Leavitt and Andrea Sperling. The show’s first season follows a young couple (Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco) in the week leading up to their wedding. Shaken by a series of foreboding doubts, eerie coincidences, and dreadful surprises, the couple can’t help but experience a creeping feeling that something bad will happen…but what?

To celebrate the release of the series, the Paris Theater is thrilled to present Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen: A Walk Down the Aisle with Haley Z. Boston, a selection of films specially curated by the show’s creator. The films in this program represent some of the foundational inspirations for Haley Z. Boston’s seriously scary vision of potentially making a lifelong commitment to the wrong person.

Boston’s cinematic journey spans decades and genres to explore the myriad ways a loving relationship can implode, among them catastrophic wedding ceremonies (Lars von Trier’s Melancholia), marriages on the brink of destruction (Andrzej Zulawski’s Possession, Mike Nichols’ Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), and the external malevolent forces that come to disrupt your family’s contentment (Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Killing of a Sacred Deer).

Tonally and visually, Boston’s creation takes great inspiration from horror classics Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby, and functions in a sort of thematic trilogy: if Carrie is the most horrific version of becoming a woman, and Rosemary’s Baby the most horrific version of becoming a mother…Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen provides the missing piece: the most horrific version of becoming a wife.  Both Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby will screen on 4K DCPs.

The series will feature a rare theatrical screening of director Thomas Vinterberg’s breakout hit The Celebration, and will also have 35mm screenings of an archival print of George Sluizer’s 1988 thriller masterpiece The Vanishing, Jonathan Glazer’s Birth, Michael Haneke’s original 1997 version of his self-reflexive home invasion thriller Funny Games, and Thom Eberhardt’s cult horror hit Sole Survivor

And as a special treat, on Monday, March 23 we’ll present a free, sneak preview screening of the first episode of Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, followed by a Q&A with creator Haley Z. Boston and series stars Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco.

"This is a collection of films that have inspired me over the years both as a person and an artist,” says Haley Z. Boston, “Each film is inherently sewn into the fabric of the show, exploring complex interpersonal dynamics and absurd events that force our understanding of the world to change. These are all fantastic date movies if you're hoping to uncover how your partner deals with cosmic uncertainty, anxiety, dread, and relationship drama - the perfect precursor for Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen!"

The spirit of each of Boston’s film selections reverberates through her thrilling new series, and we hope you join us at the Paris Theater to fully immerse yourself in the glorious cinematic dread that helped give rise to the horror of Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, starring Camila Morrone, Adam DiMarco, Jeff Wilbusch, Karla Crome, Gus Birney, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ted Levine, and Sawyer Fraser, premieres Thursday, March 26 on Netflix. Watch the teaser trailer here.
