Something Borrowed, Something Blue
DETAILS
As the peak of wedding season approaches, The Paris Theater is ready to pop the question: will you make it official and be our guest for a very special procession of movies on marriage? (Black tie optional...)
Beginning Friday, May 29th, Something Borrowed, Something Blue is a multi-week cinematic journey through the many stages of marriage, how the tradition has transformed across generations and cultures, and the realities of what comes after the ceremony. From the meet cutes to the nuptials to the happily-ever-afters (or the tragically-torn-aparts), Something Borrowed, Something Blue should be essential viewing for anyone thinking about saying “I do”.
ACT ONE: PUT A RING ON IT (May 29 - June 4) | ON SALE NOW
To kick off the series, we take a look at the drama, misunderstandings, generational clashes and familial chaos that can transpire even before the happy couple makes it to their wedding day…if they’re a happy couple at all! Before their trip down the aisle, the hopeful romantics in this film have to contend with every conceivable roadblock to the altar: scheming relatives, societal pressures, dowries, duty….and a madcap Barbra Streisand wreaking havoc across San Francisco.
Films in this week’s lineup, with tickets on sale now, include:
The Age of Innocence
All That Heaven Allows | 35mm print
Coming to America
Crazy Rich Asians
Fiddler on the Roof
Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner
The Heiress | 35mm print
Moonstruck | 35mm print
Pride & Prejudice
What’s Up, Doc? | 35mm print
ACT TWO: GET ME TO THE CHURCH ON TIME | June 19 - 29
During this week, with a full lineup to be announced at a later date, we’ll explore all the tensions, joys and calamities that can arise on your actual wedding days. Expect gorgeous celebrations like Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding, underseen gems like Robert Altman’s A Wedding, and the distinctly Shakespearean chaos of Much Ado About Nothing.
ACT THRE: LOVE WILL TEAR US APART | June 26 - July 9
We’ll wrap up this series with two weeks exploring what happens after “I do”. Will the newlyweds explore the boundaries of traditional marriage? (Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice)? Will happiness give way to heartbreak and recrimination? (Scenes from a Marriage, Marriage Story), will they live happily ever after, or be better off alone? Stay tuned for our full lineup of cinema that explores every possible outcome of tying the knot.
And don’t forget to RSVP ‘yes’ to Netflix’s collection of wedding season favorites, streaming in the US starting June 1.
