A CHILD OF MY OWN and Other Films by Maite Alberdi
DETAILS
Beginning Friday, August 7, The Paris Theater is proud to present Academy Award-nominated Chilean filmmaker Maite Alberdi’s newest documentary, Un hijo propio (A Child of My Own). The film follows recently married Alejandra, who after experiencing multiple miscarriages and the societal shame that comes with it, fakes a pregnancy. What starts as an elaborate lie turns into a complex charade that threatens to upend her life and relationship, and ultimately unleashes a media scandal that shakes the entire country.
In celebration of the release, The Paris Theater will present A CHILD OF MY OWN and Other Films by Maite Alberdi, a collection of some of Alberdi’s most captivating previous films that span documentary and fiction, often blurring the boundary between the two, to deliver fascinating stories of performance and confronting societal expectations: In the Academy Award-nominated The Eternal Memory, a wife becomes her husband's living memory as Alzheimer's erodes his sense of self. In The Mole Agent - also an Academy Award nominee, and the inspiration for Netflix’s acclaimed series A Man on the Inside starring Ted Danson - an elderly widower goes undercover in a nursing home, adopting a false identity to expose the isolation faced by the residents around him. In Her Place, Alberdi's fiction debut, follows a paralegal who loses herself in fascination with an accused murderer.
Tickets are available now for all films. Un hijo propio (A Child of My Own) launches on Netflix August 13.
