SYNOPSIS
Voicemails for Isabelle, a new swoon-worthy rom-com written and directed by Leah McKendrick, charts an unexpected romance between Jill (Zoey Deutch, Nouvelle Vague) and Wes (Nick Robinson, Jurassic World). After her sister Isabelle (Ciara Bravo) dies, Jill copes by continuing to leave her voicemails. Wes, an Austin real estate agent, gets a new work phone and is assigned Isabelle’s old number. Unbeknownst to Jill, Wes gets to listen in on her hilariously confessional messages about her life as an aspiring pastry chef in San Francisco. One voicemail at a time, Wes starts to fall in love with Jill, as they sit on different benches across the country from each other. Wes decides to make his feelings known and turns up in San Francisco. But things get even more complicated when he puts off telling Jill the bittersweet reason he’s drawn to her.
On Saturday, June 20, to celebrate the film’s’ release on Netflix, the Paris Theater is proud to present a special, FREE rom-com double feature of Voicemails for Isabelle and one of the classics of the genre that heavily influenced McKendrick’s vision: 1998’s You’ve Got Mail, written and directed by Nora Ephron and starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan! As one character in Voicemails notes, Wes and Jill’s meet cute is “a sick reboot of You’ve Got Mail”, so what better way to experience the film than alongside the classic that inspired it?
