SYNOPSIS

The Paris Theater is thrilled to announce that it will host the New York premiere of a new restoration of Frank and Eleanor Perry’s film Last Summer. This marks the first New York City screening of the film’s original theatrical cut in over 50 years! Originally released to theaters in July 1969, the film has never been released on DVD or Blu-ray and has long been considered a lost classic. The new restoration by Warner Brothers will be released on disc later this year via their Warner Archive label.

On Sunday, May 3, the film's star Richard Thomas will join us for a post-screening Q&A moderated by Larry Karaszewski (co-writer of Ed Wood and The People Vs. Larry Flynt). Karaszewski’s vocal fandom of the film contributed to its rediscovery and restoration.

Based on the novel by Evan Hunter, this frank coming-of-age tale centers on three bored teens (Thomas, Barbara Hershey, and Bruce Davison) experimenting with sex, drugs and alcohol during a vacation on New York's Fire Island that erupts into trouble when a timid new girl (Catherine Burns) joins the group. Last Summer’s controversial subject matter initially landed it an X rating, though strong reviews and its captivating filmmaking led Burns to an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
