Big & Loud Opening Night: Close Encounters of the Third Kind

The smash series continues for a third year, featuring the New York premiere of the restored, director-approved version of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND - on 70mm for the first time!

DETAILS

For a third year, the Paris Theater is bringing a visual and sonic feast to New York City with Big & Loud, a series of cinema’s most unforgettable sensory experiences featuring a jam-packed lineup of 70mm, Dolby Atmos, and audio-obsessive cinema.

The series - which will play over four weeks across August & September - originally debuted in 2023 upon the historic Paris Theater’s reopening to showcase its state-of-the-art technical upgrades, including a newly installed Dolby Atmos sound system and the technology to screen 70mm for the first time in fifteen years. With over 500 seats, Manhattan’s last remaining single screen theater also became its largest Atmos cinema.

For cinephiles, all that film technology allows for a completely immersive experience in the world onscreen, and the movies in this year's lineup will more than deliver on that promise. Foremost among the series’ unmissable events: Big & Loud opens with the New York premiere of the newly restored, director-approved version of Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind on 70mm for the first time - featuring The Paris Theater's own newly-struck, pristine archival print.

Tickets are on sale now for the Opening Night screening of Close Encounters of the Third Kind on 70mm, screening on Friday, August 29 at 6:30 PM. The full series line-up will be announced on August 7. Sign up here for the Paris newsletter to be the first to know when tickets are on sale!
