The Paris Theater is proud to continue our monthly screening series with the New York Film Critics Circle, in which members of the NYFCC appear in person at the Paris to introduce a film close to their heart, with filmmaker drop-ins and lively discussions always possible. The selections in this series frequently represent films that the NYFCC has awarded over the organization’s 90-plus year history.

This August, Rafer Guzmán will present a 35mm print of Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange starring Malcolm McDowell. In 1971, New York Film Critics Circle awarded the film with Best Film and Best Director recognitions. The film was additionally recognized with four Academy Award® nominations.

In a futuristic welfare state, Alex (Malcolm McDowell), a vicious young hoodlum, sleeps all day and spends his nights roaming the city with his droogs (friends), assaulting innocent people in the streets and in their homes. Finally captured by the police, Alex undergoes rehabilitation in the form of aversion therapy as brutal and horrifying as any of his offenses. Based on the novel by Anthony Burgess.
